Egesil Kimya Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş (Egesil) started as a Joint Venture between the former Degussa AG (Degussa) and private individuals owning the companies Ege Kimya Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Ege Kimya) and Ege Holding A.Ş. in 2002. Since 2004, 51 percent of the shares of Egesil are owned by Evonik Degussa GmbH.

Egesil belongs to the Business Line Silica, which is a part of the Segment Resource Efficiency within Evonik. Egesil is an important manufacturer of precipitated silica and supplies customers in Turkey, in Eastern Europe, Western Europe and several countries around the Globe.
